I like the idea of talking points. I decided to make some of my own for City Place, the beleaguered mall in Downtown Silver Spring that I imagined more than a few confused U-Md. students have wandered into before.

#2 would be nice, but is it really feasible? I wonder if Princeton would be able to handle the huge amounts of traffic that would be dumped on it if it were extended behind Frat Row to PB Parkway. It’s a small street and it’s not really possible to widen it at all. Although I do like the idea of connecting East Campus with Old Town to make the new development seem like it’s really a part of the college town and not some contrived new “town center” outdoor mall type thing that was just dumped there. I think that a big goal should be to integrate East Campus into the current framework of the city.

I fully agree with Point 2. I lived in the Old Town for a year and have lived on Frat Row for more than a year. One thing I’ve come to notice is that every street is designed such that if you want to drive north, you must pass through the Route 1-Paint Branch intersection, which produces monstrous backups in rush hour extending all the way to College Ave.

Though it’s clear the long-term residents probably clamored to insulate their neighborhood as much as possible, they may have inadvertently hurt their own quality of life since now they too must suffer the traffic woes on Route 1 to go anywhere.
